June is festival time par excellence and The Hague is the place to be28 march 2011 . 09:51During the fifth edition of The Hague Festivals, the city and the seaside resorts of Scheveningen and Kijkduin will be the proud venues for many great festivals and events. To kick off, there will be the Royal Beach Concert at Scheveningen, featuring Bryan Adams and Elton John. On Sunday June 26th ,Parkpop, Europe’s largest free pop festival, will close the ranks. Don’t miss Shopping Night on Thursday June 23rd, featuring a large catwalk in the middle of the street and tips on your mobile phone about great offers and the latest trends. This formula is so successful that other Dutch cities are following our example. The motto is 'Shop till you drop!’.

Jazzy tunes

But that’s not all! 'The Hague is truly a jazz city and it shows: The Hague Jazz (June 17 – 19) is growing year by year and this year’s edition (number six) will be held at Kyocera Stadium, with plenty of room for more jazzy tunes. Big names will perform, including the extravagant diva Grace Jones. For a more intimate atmosphere, check out Jazz’in de Gracht; musicians on canal boats entertain the audience on the quay with jazz, funk and blues.

Festival Classique

The Hague’s historic Hofvijver will once again be the main but not the only location for Festival Classique (June 14 – 19). Beautiful classical music will be heard at many special places in town, the motto being ´no nonsense, just good music`. ´Bolle buiken, ronde klanken´ is performed especially for pregnant women, featuring soothing harp music to relax both mothers to be and their unborn babies. Too normal for you? In the Gevangenpoort, a former prison, you can catch 'Bach in de Bajes’ (Bach in Jail). Perhaps Bach’s best music stems from his period in jail…

Big names

The Hague Festivals presents a wealth of big name performers in June: Bryan Adams, Golden Earring and Elton John on Scheveningen beach during Royal Beach Concert, Jamie Cullum at Parkpop and Grace Jones, Trijntje Oosterhuis and Duran Duran at The Hague Jazz. Who’s next?
